Recently, Philips officially revealed its UK range of television sets for 2010. It features LED backlighting not only in the flagship 9000 series, but also in the 5000, 7000 and 8000 series as well. Though the announcement of the pioneering 9000 series and second-generation 21:9 television will steal the headlines, other new ranges from Philips will certainly not stay in the shadow.
The Spectra 2 Ambilight feature of Philips has been incorporated in the 7000 and 8000 series. The 2010 version of the Spectra 2 Ambilight technology also senses the colour of your wall and adjusts the colour accordingly. This means that you will not need to mount your TV set on whitewashed background in order to get the best viewing experience.
LED backlighting is one technology that will grab the headlines with 5000, 7000 and 8000 series. The entire series have lines of LEDs positioned along the bottom and top edge of the TV set which shines light across the back of screen where the light guide reflects the light ahead – thus maintaining a consistent brightness.
The LED backlighting used in 9000 series is not the same as the ones used in 5000, 7000 and 8000 series. All 32 inch versions of the Full HD 8000 series will be 3D ready along with a 3D upgrade pack, which will be available separately. It will also include the transmitter and 2 pairs of 3D active glasses. When you decide to get a new LCD TV, you should not forget to get the right TV bracket to mount it securely on a wall.
