Philips, the Dutch manufacturer, has recently launched its ‘Passive’ technology based 3D TVs alongside their ‘Active Shutter’ types. While LG was one of the first manufacturers to launch ‘Passive’ 3D format, other manufacturers are soon to join the bandwagon.
The passive 3D TVs utilise an affordable patterned retarder process (FPR). Besides lowering the production costs, the FPR technology also minimises the impact of ‘flicker’ and ‘crosstalk’ seen in active shutter implementations. Moreover, the likes of LG and Philips have also reopened the debate over health issues related to active shutter glasses.
