Japanese TV retailers are turning to Taiwan in a bid to ensure there are enough LED-backlit LCD TVs available for sale – good news for those selling brackets for LCD TVs who depend on TV sales to create a target market.
Some 40 and 55-inch TVs are apparently already being produced. LED light bars are made in Taiwan, where they are shipped to Japan where back-light unit makers are based.
Up until recently, companies in Japan have had a policy of only sourcing components from other Japanese companies, but this seems to have changed. LED back-lit LCD TVs are anticipated to constitute over a quarter of TV sales in 2010 for Sony and Sharp.
