You have chosen a bracket online and the nifty little gadget has just been delivered to your doorstep by your friendly postman. But don’t get too carried away before fitting it to the wall, there are some things to check first!
Important things to check before fitting a TV bracket
You have probably already decided the position where you want to mount the TV. Before you start to drill the wall however here are a few things you might want to think about.
Power socket availability
Is there a power socket nearby where you can plug the TV in? If you want to hide the power socket behind the TV you will need to get a Part P qualified electrician to install a spur from an existing socket. Otherwise look at ways of getting the power cable from behind the TV to the socket. You might want to buy some trunking. This hides cables and can be fitted to the wall easily. Using this means you don’t have unsightly cables dangling behind the TV.
Is the aerial point behind the TV or are you going to have to install an extension? There will be a good chance that your flat screen TV will have a digital tuner built in, so you need to plug in an aerial to watch your favourite programmes.
Do you have a DVD player or a gaming system? Spend some time working out how you are going to plug these devices into the TV when it is mounted on the wall using your brand new TV bracket.
